Sun Kissed Love by @iamchanningmarie is a love letter to Black families past, present, and future. Together, the words and illustrations instruct readers on ways they can honor themselves, their elders, and their ancestors. As an early childhood and elementary educator, I would add this book to literacy and social studies units. This book is equipped with everything I love; Black history, beautiful illustrations, a recipe, and an author’s note! This belongs on the bookshelf of every Black child ♥️
I would recommend this book specifically for early childhood and elementary educators because this book can be used as curriculum across content areas. There is space for this book in both literacy and social studies as children write narratives, illustrate stories, learn about identity and self, and engage in history lessons. The thread of Black history is the core of my recommendation and allows for readers to do their own research.
I'd recommend it to diversify your library. The illustrations of Morgan are adorable and feel like a hug in the mirror for readers.

Between the illustrations of a beautiful dark skinned Black girl to the messages about the power and impact of exploring your roots this books is so incredibly needed right now for the adults healing their inner child and the young people learning who and whose they are.

Yes, I would definitely recommend Sunkissed Love because representation matters, and we need more stories that show Black children experiencing whimsy, joy, and meaningful self-discovery. This book offers a refreshing and heartfelt look at identity through a lens of warmth and imagination. It’s a beautiful reminder that all children deserve to see themselves in stories that celebrate who they are.
